GatE Project

Gender equality in energy transition

GatE – Gender Equality in Energy Transition.

GatE is a European project driving real change in the role of women within the energy sector, which is currently undergoing a transition towards a more sustainable model. Its aim is to significantly increase female participation and leadership, particularly in technical and professional fields linked to green technologies.

We aspire to a more inclusive, fair and sustainable energy sector. To achieve this, GatE adapts vocational training programmes (levels 3 and 4 of the European Qualifications Framework – EQF), fosters support and mentoring networks, and develops practical tools to facilitate women’s access to and advancement within the green energy ecosystem.

Project’s official website: proyecto GatE

How are we going to do it?

The project aims to break down the systemic barriers that prevent women from accessing and progressing within the energy sector, with a particular focus on women from vulnerable groups. We will achieve this through:

  • Strategic equality policy frameworks.
  • Targeted educational programmes.
  • Support networks and self-empowerment initiatives.

GatE applies a Quadruple Helix innovation model, bringing together industry, government, civil society and women themselves to generate a real and lasting impact.

What are we going to work on?

The project, led by 11 partners from 4 countries, will carry out a series of specific actions:

  • A Strategic Plan for Gender Equality in the Green Energy Transition.
  • Three awareness-raising and recruitment campaigns.
  • An ambassador programme and a policy advocacy campaign.
  • Three events to build committed communities.
  • A mentoring programme for 100 participants (15% from marginalised groups).
  • Training for 40 career advisers.
  • A skills enhancement programme for 100 women and a reskilling programme for 20 professionals.
  • A mobility programme for 15 trainers and vocational training staff.

Platform and observatory

All services will be integrated into an Education and Cooperation Platform, which will offer:

  • An AI-powered career guidance tool.
  • A policy advocacy toolkit.
  • Resources for scaling up initiatives.
A database of networks and job opportunities.

The platform will be supported by a new Observatory for Gender Equality in the Green Energy Transition, which will ensure the monitoring and sustainability of the project’s actions.
